Telford and Wrekin Safer & Stronger Communities Partnership (SSCP) is made up of a wide range of public, private and voluntary agencies and is responsible for reducing crime, anti social behaviour, substance misuse and domestic abuse in Telford and Wrekin. The vision of the Partnership is:

Telford & Wrekin Council

Telford & Wrekin Council provides approximately 700 services for residents of the borough. The Council’s resident satisfaction levels have improved year on year over the last three years and the Council has the lowest council tax for equivalent services when compared with other authorities across the region.

West Mercia Police

The Telford & Wrekin Division of West Mercia Police contain 20 Local Policing Teams across five command areas – Central, Newport, North, South and Wellington. There are around 322 police officers and 136 police staff, as well as Community Support Officers and Special Constables.

The NHS Telford and Wrekin is part of the National Health Service. Its role is to progressively improve the health of the population of Telford and Wrekin and to organise quality healthcare services.

Shropshire Fire & Rescue Service

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service employ 593 members of staff who operate from 23 strategically located sites across Shropshire. The Service has three whole-time stations located in Wellington, Shrewsbury and Telford, 23 retained stations, Service headquarters in Shrewsbury and a training centre in Telford.

West Mercia Probation Trust

West Mercia is one of the 35 Probation Trusts in England and Wales that make up the Probation Service. It is a key agency within the criminal justice system and works in partnership with other criminal justice agencies, local councils and other partner agencies to reduce reoffending and protect the public. The Trust supervises offenders in the community – those subject to a court order and those released from prison on licence.

The Crown Prosecution Service

The role of the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) is to prosecute criminal cases investigated by the police in England and Wales. In particular, the CPS advises the police on cases for possible prosecution, reviews cases submitted by the police for prosecution (where the decision is to prosecute, determines the charge in all but minor cases), prepares cases for court, and presents those cases at court. CPS West Mercia is one of the 42 areas of the CPS across England and Wales.

 

West Mercia Police Authority
West Mercia Police Authority is an independent body comprising of 17 members responsible for securing the maintenance of an efficient and effective police service for the people of West Mercia. Key statutory responsibilities include: agreeing the annual policing priorities after consulting with local people and holding the Chief Constable to account to deliver them; setting the force's overall budget and the annual precept to be paid through the council tax for policing; and appointing the Chief Constable, Deputy Chief Constable and Assistant Chief Constables. In particular, members work with their local divisional commanders to monitor overall performance, oversee the operation of local policing teams and support partnership working with other local agencies, in order to deliver strong community safety.

 

Youth Offending Service
The YOS works with young people aged 10 –17 who are involved in the Criminal Justice System to prevent offending and reoffending. Case managers work either one-to-one or in a group work setting to look at the reasons behind the young persons offending behaviour. Appropriate referrals are made to seconded health, education, substance misuse, accommodation and parenting workers based within the Service. The Service has many community volunteers working directly with young people and the victims of crime to encourage restorative justice including direct reparation to repay the harm caused. Prevention workers based in multi agency teams throughout the county work with children and young people aged 8 - 17 believed to be at risk of becoming involved in crime and/or anti-social behaviour. The aim is to work with young people and their families at the early stages of offending through positive and tailored interventions and also signpost to other agencies and activities that maybe able to help.

 

HM Prison Service
Working closely with our commissioners and our partners in the Criminal Justice System and other agencies to achieve a safer community. Preventing Victims by changing lives and reducing the risk of reoffending through the 7 pathways. The concept of end-to-end offender management ensures that offenders are offered the best possible opportunity to change their offending behaviour.

 

Victim Support
The core of Victim Support’s business is delivering support services to victims and witnesses to a consistent, high-quality standard. Merging into a single charity has given us the foundation for greater consistency. During the last two years we have, in partnership with the OCJR, piloted and rolled out a new approach to delivering tailored support to victims – Victim Support Plus.

 

The Legal Services Commission
The Legal Services Commission (LSC) runs legal aid in England and Wales. They make sure that people get the information, advice and legal help they need to deal with a wide range of legal problems.
