What is Anti-Social Behaviour?
Anti-social behaviour (ASB) is a term which can be used to describe a range of unacceptable activities that have a negative impact on a community or individual. Broadly speaking, there are three types of ASB: street problems, nuisance neighbours and environmental ASB.
Examples of anti-social behaviour can include:
• Criminal Damage • Vandalism • Noise nuisance • Threatening or rowdy behaviour
• Joy riding • Throwing missiles • Racial/verbal abuse • Graffiti • Fly-tipping • Littering
It is important to remember that it’s not just young people who are responsible for ASB.
There are many reasons that can increase the likelihood of someone committing ASB. Research has shown that these can include someone’s family environment, attendance and performance at school, accommodation, employment and the local community, and involvement in problem behaviour, illegal drugs and crime.
