27.06.08 - Telford bike project launches
Preparations are now complete as Telford Police and Telford & Wrekin Council get ready for the first meeting of the Telford Bike Project this Sunday. The aim of the newly formed club is to give young people from Hadley and Leegomery somewhere to legally ride their mini-motos in the hope that this will take away their desire to ride illegally on public highways and therefore endanger the public. The project to form the club has been put together by various partners including Leegomery Community Centre, the Hadley and Leegomery Local Policing Team and the HaPPi Project. Mike Jones from Telford & Wrekin Council said “Motorcycle projects such as this for those young people who are at risk of engaging in anti-social activities and who have an interest in motor cycling are things that we believe will have long–term benefits to local community. The aim is to enhance practical skills and knowledge of basic motor cycle safety and maintenance in the area’s young people, and help foster responsible rider ethics before it is too late”

18.06.08 – Telford’s Neighbourhood Watch coverage continues to grow
With 640 schemes and more than 14,000 households under its protection, Neighbourhood Watch (NHW) in Telford & Wrekin continues to go from strength to strength. Although a separate organisation to the police, local officers support and work closely with NHW co-ordinators to create safer and more secure communities by deterring crime and anti-social behaviour, providing community safety advice and encouraging neighbourliness. Anne Walker, Telford & Wrekin’s Neighbourhood Watch Administrator: “Neighbourhood Watch works closely with the police in Telford, particularly with local police and community support officers, with regards to crime prevention advice, intelligence sharing and identifying issues of local concern.
Often co-ordinators will distribute community safety advice on the police’s behalf, getting advice and warnings out about things such as bogus callers, garden and home security and personal safety” For more information about Neighbourhood Watch in your area or how to set up a scheme, please contact the Neighbourhood Watch Administration Team at Malinsgate Police Station on 08457 444888 ext 5799 or email anne.walker@westmercia.pnn.police.uk
10.06.08 - Police reassure public over child abduction claims
Telford Police have released a statement to reassure local residents that there appears to be no foundation to rumours circulating the town that there was a child abduction attempt in Donnington over the weekend. Officers received a number of calls relating to the alleged abduction of a young child at Asda supermarket in Donnington. However neither Asda nor Telford Police have had any such incident reported to them and after thorough investigation no evidence was found to suggest that such an incident took place.

09.06.08 – Newport Police tackle anti-social behaviour
In response to further concerns expressed by local residents, Police Officers in Newport have continued their already successful attempts to tackle anti-social behaviour issues in the Norbroom Park, Stafford Street and High Street areas of the town. Issues, such as littering and the underage consumption of alcohol, have been raised at PACT Meetings in the town and the Local Policing Teams, assisted by the CSO Target Team, have been making regular visits to the area in an attempt to address any problems. As a result only 1 significant incident report was filed during the month of May in Norbroom Park. Alcohol was also seized from a number of underage drinkers during the half term week. As well as confiscating the alcohol they found, officers also took down the details of all the individuals involved. The parents of those involved received Youth Awareness letters, warning them about their conduct and notifying them that they have received a warning about it. It was made clear that should they be involved in any further incidents then the consequences for their children could be far more serious.
